Truthfulness, Selflessness and Humility ...

Letting what goes on around us to pattern our behaviour is a violation of our sense of self.  Granted, we are by nature Social Beings, with a need to love and be loved.  First and foremost, however, we are highly individual, blessed with personal traits ours alone to treasure, to develop and to share with others.

Daily interaction with others is made easy when our thoughts, our speech and our behaviour reflect our true inner values; values freed from the nemesis of materialism.  Such values have only to be revealed, ever there to be taken up and used.  They have their genesis in Truthfulness, Selflessness and Humility, character traits which exalt our very soul.

“Daily interaction with others… reflect our true inner values … “

Week two of my friend’s spiritual journey of conscious transformation
Yesterday’s visit was centered on knowing her true inner values.  Her thoughts, interactions, and behaviour need to reflect these core beliefs.   As a result, she will be letting two friends know that money isn’t available for her to go on their annual holiday.  Already she feels empowered by following one of her true inner values.  blw

Transcendental Thought ...

Life becomes better when we face up to that which gives rise to our unhappiness. Such uplifting thought at once eases the mind and awakens our instinct for survival; that which reaches beyond human will and touches upon our own spirituality. It is this mystic duality of interaction: mind becoming one with divine life-giving soul that is alone our earthly salvation.

Without conscious transformation of the mind into a higher spiritual state, resolutions based solely on transitory thought are devoid of foundation and are but empty promises.

“ … conscious transformation … ”

Just yesterday a dear friend and I embarked on a spiritual journey of conscious transformation.  She is already a survivor of tragic life-altering events.  Together we will reveal and awaken the truth within… that which can never be destroyed.  I am blessed to journey with her.  blw

Personal Awareness...

Life is not “a bowl of cherries,” and it is not made better when we simply accept all that befalls us without questioning its validity. This is none other than a state of mind nurtured by habit; that of letting life run its course with little or no thought given to the fact that we alone are in charge of our own destiny.  Our very well-being demands that we free ourself of this habit by cultivating a sense of personal awareness and of consciously making choices that redound to our benefit.

“… consciously making choices that redound to our benefit.”

Just this morning, Meg and I met to chat and share our lives with each other.  Together we’ve taken many *personal growth classes over the past couple of years so when we get together it’s all about…,  what did you decide about this… ?  what helped you to figure this out … ?  how would you approach this… ?  what helped you to make that choice … ?   Our conversation focuses on encouraging, uplifting and celebrating each other!

And thanks to Linda’s choice in choosing independent coffee shops as her favourites, Meg and I met at Central Blends a cozy, older community coffee shop with friendly servers :o)  It’s a keeper! blw

Mind In Transcendence ...

We well know the mind stirs the imagination, invoking images both real and fanciful.  It is less well known, however, that within this phenomenon of the mind lies our most precious human resource; the ability through imagination to transform thoughts of the mind into the realm of the supernatural.  Thus may we visualize ourself suffused in the light of God’s presence, His love a salve to our soul.

“… the mind stirs the imagination,…”

Recently I enjoyed the gift of Margaret Silf, writer-in-residence, at *“The Centre”.  It was during Margaret’s workshop entitled Prayer for the Bewildered that I was introduced to “entering into the Gospel in imaginative prayer” … (choose a Gospel story, ask God to Guide you as you enter the story and imagine the scene. What can you see, hear, smell, taste or feel?  What is happening in the scene? Who is there? What does the scene suggest?) .

It was some days later when I thought I’d try this form of prayer.  I chose the scene in St. John 20:26-28 when Jesus appeared to his disciples:  I was Thomas … “27Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach higher thy hand and thrust it into my side; and be not faithless, but believing.”  As Thomas I experienced  a very personal feeling of being alone with Jesus: I was part of something very special.  blw

The Lightness of Being ...

Time alone should be seized upon for reflection and study.  Freed from the bustle of everyday life, we are enabled to go within and to question the societal mores that influence our thinking and shape our life.

Such moments of deep quietude tend to awaken our recumbent soul, the very essence of life.  We come to sense a wondrous lightness in our new-found Being: truth and honesty become our providential guideposts.

“… go within and … question… “

The ritual of new year’s resolutions is interesting… while at a New Year’s program a question was asked, “ What do I need to let go of to liberate the greatness in me?”  My answer, FEAR!  I didn’t give this another thought until this morning.  Upon reflection, it came to mind … “let go of yesterday”.  blw

Spirituality of the Mind

QUIETING THE TURMOIL OF THE MIND that we may come to know peace within is a solitary journey; one of perserverance and faith.  Having others of like mind around us may provide a welcoming sense of fellowship and bolster our determination to resolve the dilemma, but we alone are accountable.

As is ever the case when seeking Truth, the answer lies in becoming still and going within to nourish with our own spirituality the mind become enlightened.

“… a welcoming sense of fellowship …”
I enjoy the fellowship of many spiritual seekers.  Whether at the Brahma Kumaris Meditation Centre, the Catholic Pastoral Centre, Christian Science Church, Grace Presbyterian Church or the book club at The FCJ Centre… together, we are seeking Truth by nourishing our souls.  At the day’s end each one is on a solitary journey to Becoming fulfilled. blw

The Soul Revealed ...

Of a certainty, we are, each one of us, unlike any other. As such, it behooves us to be none other than that one person God means us to be. Though never easy, our foremost challenge in life is to acknowledge who we are and to love ourself.

That which is seen by others—no less so by ourself—is not our true Being. Truth, ever our guidepost, is not of the body but of the soul; each a child of God in His own spiritual image.

In thus honouring our true Being, all the while giving thanks to God, we experience a wondrous harmony of mind, body and soul, to know peace within. A new-found selflessness that reflects the divine light of the soul enables us, in all humility, to love and to give freely of ourself to others. Only thus do we come to know and love ourself.

Truth, ever our guidepost…  Last week I was wound up like a watch that was about to spring open… WHY??  Why was I critical of myself and of others… on and on… ugh!!  I thought I could just keep ignoring my feelings even though as time went on I wasn’t being true to my spiritual purpose. I was feeling ever more unworthy.

*Meditation classes teach: the answers are within me… obstacles to my peacefulness are never ‘out there’.  It was time to ask mySELF, “what is going on within me?  why am I doubting myself?”  The answer became clear… I must set aside time every day to nourish my soul.  blw
